What does it mean??  Well, to keep the bill reasonable, they are encouraging use at “off peak” times.  So, not running the air conditioner during the daytime, doing laundry in the evenings or on weekends.

The Burl-Oak Naval Veterans will be holding their sunrise Remembrance day Service at Spencer Smith Park, off Lakeshore Road at Burlington’s waterfront.

It is a half hour ceremony, starting at 9am and will take place at the Naval Ships Memorial Monument at the park.

It will be followed by the Remembrance Day Parade.

You know the saying: Spring ahead and Fall back!

Well, it is time to FALL BACK.  When you go to bed on Sat Nov 6th, be sure to remember to set your clocks BACK an hour!  And these days, that is a lot of clocks since just about everything blinks and has an electronic clock on it.  Don’t forget the one in your vehicle too.

But the MOST important thing to do, is CHECK YOUR SMOKE DETECTORS.  Clocks if you forget, eh, you might be an hour late for something, or an hour early.  But your SMOKE DETECTOR can save you and your family’s life in the event of a house fire.

Press the button!  Be sure they all work.  If they are battery operated, PUT IN NEW BATTERIES.  Please don’t skimp on this small expense, its just not worth trying to save a few dollars here.

Enjoy this nice weekend – perhaps also hang your Christmas lights while the weather is still nice.  Not fun trying to that when its freezing outside.

FALL is here!!  The leaves are turning colour and soon will be falling and then its time to rake!  The City of Burlington has released the loose leaf pick up schedule on its website.  See the website for MAP of locations / dates for pick up.

Leaf Collection Guidelines

Please have your loose-leaves raked and ready for pick-up before the start date for your collection area.

• Leaves must be placed on the edge of the curb or along the shoulder. Do not place leaves over catch basins or in ditches. Leaves must be placed beside the road in order for city equipment to reach them.
• Put leaves out for pick-up no earlier than five days before your collection date.
• Leaves must be loose and free of debris or other materials such as branches and yard waste.
• Leaves contaminated with branches, yard waste or debris, or leaves put out after the collection has taken place will not be collected and are the responsibility of the homeowner to remove.
• Please avoid parking vehicles in front of loose-leaf piles on your collection date, as this interferes with the collection of leaves.
• Bagged leaves are not collected as part of this program.
